HOSE ASSEMBLY

PREPARATION OF THE ASSEMBLED HOSE 5

Inspection, control and testing:

The final control of the assembled hose may show possible anomalies occurred during the preparation of the assembly:
- through a visual check ensure there are no cuts, abrasions or any possible damage on the hose.
- check the correct swage diameter, the alignment between the fittings and the hose, ensure that the nut is not obstructed and can rotate freely, that the marking on the hose is straight and that the assembled hose is not twisted. To perform the required testing:
Usually the test pressure is double of the stated working pressure for the hose. Follow the standard testing procedure.
No oil leak, anomalous movement, rotation of the hose or drop in pressure should occur when the assembled hose is under pressure.

Norm REF.:
UNI EN ISO 1402: “hoses and rubber and plastic assembled hoses- idrostatic tests“

The assembled hose pollution can cause many problems.
- create deposits inside the circuit, reduce the effectiveness and damage the system.
- wear and tear from contamination can reduce the life of the product.
- cause turbulences, friction and heat accumulation leading to reduced life span of the assembled hose.

Cleaning

Proceed with the assembly cleaning process using appropriate cleaning “pig” and sponges. For I higher level of cleanliness a flushing rig should be used.

Norm REF.:
There are different standards for the classification of the cleaning level, for exemple depending on the number and the size of the particles. ISO4406: ”Hydraulic fluid power -- Fluids -- Method for coding the level of contamination by solid particles” ISO 11218: “Aerospace – Cleanliness classification for hydraulic fluids” SAE749, NAS 1638, BS5540/4.

Protection accessories

The heat shrink cap can be used to prevent contamination entering the hose assembly after cleaning. This is a practical alternative to the traditional plastic cap. It some cases it can be useful to bound up the hoses to reduce the space and protect the bundle of hoses. Sometimes, in applications that require the hoses to be protected you can also use a sheath.

Here are some useful suggestions:

- always consider the mechanical movement;
- do not bind together high and low pressure hoses
- do not bind together rubber and thermoplastic hoses
